Mysterium Esoteric Insight: My Version of Wicca, The "W" in Wicca

May 2, 2010

By Lord Felix Wolfsbane

http://felyxwolfsbane.multiply.com

Witchcraft and Wicca Correspondent

I have been a Wiccan for almost 15 years and this is the religion that I practiced and embraced ever since (though I am a baptized Catholic- my parent’s choice). After I have fully understood the religion, I learned to respect and revere this Sacred Path and I continued to practice and learn as I walk through it. In one of my trips online, I was looking for Wiccan Practitioners in the Philippines and I have stumbled upon a lot of websites where I saw people claiming to be the “Authority, Real, Initiated, Grand Poohbah, High Priestess of the Moon” use a small letter “w” when they spell out the word Wicca.

For starters, Wicca is a legitimate religion and is one of the fastest growing religions in the world. There are an increasing number of Wiccans around the US, England, Australia and here in the Philippines. Covens sprout like mushrooms around the country with people claiming to be an initiated witch and thus naming themselves as High Priest/Priestess after reading a book and practicing the Craft for a week. I do not claim to be initiated under some correspondence coven from the US and get a mail-to-order Wiccan Degree to prove that I am Wiccan. Religions evolve and even though I do not have any direct lineage to the New Forest Coven of Gardner or to the Familial Stregas of Italy, I am connected to my ancestors, Nature and the Gods and for me that is the greatest initiation of all, the greatest proof that I am a Wiccan.

The Philippines does not have any knowledge of Wicca during the ancient times. We do not have any “covens” with strict hierarchy and degrees. However, we have Goddesses and Gods who govern nature and the cycles of Death and Rebirth, Nature spirits who assist and protect our crops to grow, Elementals who direct rain clouds over our fields, and ancestor spirits who protect and guide our family. Even though we do not call it Wicca or even call it with other names, I find the Wiccan Path the nearest to this Nameless Path that my ancestors practice.

Going back to the “W” in Wicca, this religion is a proper noun therefore it is just proper to use a Capital Letter “W” to spell it out. It is also our religion (as some people claim- I call them “Spotlight Wiccans” Wiccan now, Wiccan Not later) and therefore must be treated with reverence. We do not see Christianity or Christ spelled with a small “C” or Muslim and Mohammad spelled with a small letter “M”, right.  We must be aware that everything we said and write reflects back to us as a person and to Wicca as our religion.

Still… Knowledge and Reverence.

Mysterium Esoteric Insight: The Problem of Charlatanism

January 26, 2010

By R.F Rubin

Founder Mysterium Philippines

One of the most pressing issues in studying occultism in this country is the presence of a term we know as  Charlatanism. But before we go into how this problem affects seekers in this country let us first define what a Charlatan is so that we are all on the same page here.

As stated by the Late Hermeticist Master Franz Bardon a Charlatan is”

“a person trying to deceive other people. He is not a sorcerer, nor is he a magician. He is actually in common terms, a swindler. Charlatans like to boast about high magick faculties, which in truth they do not possess. and  try to surround themselves with a veil of mystical secrecy in order to hide  their ignorance.”

That being said, It is not the influx of Rogue Magicians that is plaguing this beautiful nation but in fact those who hide behind false title and faux pedigree in certain practices in order to make a quick buck since in fact we  live in a world where the power of money still rules.

In this country you are likely to encounter 2 kinds of practitioner. The Seeker and the Charlatan. The seeker can always substantiate what they know. IF they CLAIM to know something they will gladly share details about what they do in hopes to learning more from those they encounter. The charlatan does the opposite of this. They claim that they are part of arcane orders that predate modern society and their “secret inner council” forbids them to discussing with lower mortals the awesome power of such practices. Such words and actions are nothing more than ludicrous excuses for the ignorance they hide with a front of Mystical jargon.

However in modern day the Charlatan has come to terms with a painful fact. Evolve or face extinction. In this day and age where The internet is the equivalent of the Akashic records of technological history. Words and proclamations can easily be substantiated.. or disproved with the mere click of a button. So in order to survive the charlatan has read a few lectures, and done a few tricks in the field of magick but nothing as grand as they profess themselves to be.

The modern charlatan will claim mastery in several topics. but will smother those who pose questions with simple  yet basic knowledge of the path simply to fend off debunkers. But this is where the danger lies. It is easy for  example to read one chapter of any book on magick and call myself an adept to those who have no magickal knowledge  what so ever but it would be difficult to do so to other practitioners. Especially the more established ones.

Another danger that presents itself in charlatanry is the presence of passing on defective teachings. This happens when the charlatan takes on students. Regardless of the caliber or dedication of the student it is expected that the when students of any kind begin their learning’s from a flawed source. Their own knowledge base also becomes flawed. In cases like this the charlatan Charges Horrendous amounts for training in simple topics that can easily be researched on the internet. The money lays as their failsafe, Since if someone is willing to part with large and unreasonable amounts of money it is usually a sign in most cases of the student being too accepting for any sort of teachings.

As an observation we have noted the following.

1) The Seeker in this day and age may and in most cases will likely charge for teaching and trainings in the esoteric and arcane. But will be selective of the students they teach. The Charlatan though will take anyone who wants to learn. but will also attach to it a very unreasonable price tag

2) The Seeker will in most cases be enthusiastic to meet and discuss magick, occultism and practices with anyone.  Just as doctors would like to meet other doctors to expound their network, The Charlatan will either do one of 2  extremes. the first being A loud and obvious source of occult practices to everyone (Not just practitioner mind you  but even mundane people alike) or be So secretive that when asked about they proclaim their practice but never wish  to discuss it with anyone.

3) the Seeker will be accommodating to others on the path, and kind to those who want to learn. But will always show  respect to others around them regardless of practice. The charlatan however stands on top a soap box and preaches  how his/her path is the ONE TRUE practice.

Ergo as a final note

We are in the world where bullshit and con-artistry thrives on the gullibility of others. It is then prudent for  would be seekers to practice proper judgment when choosing to associate with new contacts in occultism. If the  people you meet can speak directly, clearly and substantially about their practice and if you also feel that they  are credible sources in their practice then this is a good place to start. But even in said cases it is always  helpful to hold a safe amount of skepticism

When someone is charging for learning’s and services. Always remember that the price should be REASONABLE. 10 dollars for a 15 min tarot reading is fine. but 1000 Dollars for a one hour session is ludicrous!. Courses should be clear and have specific objectives to them. One should always feel that they are getting their money’s worth when investing into esoteric training if not more than they could possibly expected for. And lastly the attitude of the Seeker will always answer questions in an respectful yet professional manner. If asked about ones practices the  seeker will give out information that is safe to share with non-initiates but will also know what practices are exclusive to members only. A good example is seen in the Freemasonry movement. If one asks about What Masonry is, a true mason would be eager and delighted to share the purpose of his order. but In retrospect would never reveal  their exclusive ritae to non members.

Best wishes to all and More power to the Divine Truth

Esoteric Insight: Zapped by Emotional Vampires

December 30, 2009

By CaliforniaPsychics.com

You dread meeting them for lunch, but go anyway. Hours later you’re exhausted, have a headache and find yourself making weak excuses to run for your life. You’ve just been zapped by an emotional vampire.

No, they don’t actually drain the blood from your neck (although you may have a stiff neck by the time you flee), but they do drain the joy from your life and remove any desire you have to spend any more time with them. No wonder you’re dazed and confused. No wonder you don’t feel good around them!

Emotional vampires do their best energetically to suck the life force right out of you (and everyone else)! Whether it’s subconsciously or on purpose, these are the kinds of people who hunt for victims to energize them simply because they can’t (or won’t) tap into their own spiritual energy source for revitalization.

So what do they look like?

Esoteric Insight: Discovering the Tarot

December 10, 2009

By R. F Rubin

Tarot cards… a beloved past time of Filipinos of all walks of life. The mere mention of a reader in the immediate area brings feelings of intrigue and excitement to those who want a memorable thrill at the expense of a few hundred pesos. However unknown to most others the tarot exists for reasons beyond mere fortune telling and can be used in near countless different ways to help both the reader and the client in their personal/spiritual growth.

Paul Foster case said in his works on the tarot that the primary purpose of the tarot is to PROVOKE THOUGHT, while  its divinatory use holds a mere secondary purpose to the sacred secrets within the 78 cards. But one may ask? How is this done? And what are other ways that the tarot can be used asides from fortune telling. When asked such a question I like to answer you have at least 78 different ways to use the cards, one for each card in the deck.

However before we go any further on how to further the uses of the tarot let us take the time to make a basic distinction between the types of deck that exists. The first and most useful is the DESCRIPTIVE DECK. A good example of this is the Famed Rider Waite Smith deck (RWS) published at the turn of the century. We in mysterium call this deck descriptive because the definitions of the cards themselves are apparent within the artwork. Such decks like the Rider Waite Smith and decks inspired by it such as the Universal Tarot are very helpful for the beginning student to further their understandings of the esoteric symbols within the deck itself.

The next type of deck is what we like to call the INTUITIVE DECK. These decks usually have either beautiful major arcana (Trump) cards, but in most cases plain monotonous drawings for the minor arcana. In such cases the deck steers away from the objective meaning of the cards and leans more towards the utilization of the reader’s intuition.

Said decks are more like those of the Spanish cards that rural fortunetellers utilize. Intuitive decks are helpful in developing clairvoyant abilities in the tarot reader; however it is recommended that such an approach is focused on after the comprehension of the objective symbology of the cards itself.

 Hidden Symbolism in the Cards

The tarot as said before has as many hidden secrets within it as it has cards. One of the first things we teach the students in the Intro to Tarot course is to spot these hidden things incorporate these discoveries to one’s own personal utilization of the cards. For example take a good look at the Card the Fool from the Basic Rider Waite Smith deck. Beyond its obvious illustration of a happy go lucky man in love with life likes a secret of second chances. As the card illustrates the Fool is soon to walk off the cliff into oblivion. However if you observe his  footings you will see that the Fool can still take one COMPLETE step forward and still not fall. Showing to us that our definition of inevitable is always based upon the choices we make, as well the fact that it is never too late to turn back.

The Tarot as a Meditative Tool:

The Tarot deck can also be used to influence the way the owner feels by simply choosing a card to meditate on and focusing on it as the object of contemplation. Say for example one wishes to invoke the feelings of concentration and focus, the card the Magician would be used due to the appearance of determination in achieving his one true will as seen within the cards. If one for example desires to invoke the feeling of leadership and authority for when managing people and or situations. Who better than the Emperor in order to project the thoughts and energies of power and authority?

These are but two of the many ways that we instruct the students in the Introduction to tarot course to tap into the arcane power of the tarot but more can be discovered by a determined seeker.

The tarot as an aide for Magical Practice:

Along with its meditative qualities the Tarot deck can be utilized as a tool for magick and manifestation, through the use and understanding of the symbology of each tarot card within the RWS deck the students can see that if two cards are used in conjunction with magical correspondences such as candle colors, days of the week and basic affirmations. Let’s say you have a court hearing that you want to go smoothly. Why not try using the Cards Justice, the 10 of Cups and Judgment together to bring about an outcome that makes everyone happy?  The possibly combination of cards is literally limited to one’s own imagination and creativity.

In conclusion, if the only thing you’re using the Tarot for is for fortune telling, then it is sad to say you do not know the tarot truly. The tarot is one of the most diversified yet potent tools that any aspiring student of the occult can possess. And by simply taking the time to understand and search for alternative ways of using a tarot deck, you can bring about many wonderful changes to the lives of yourself and those around you.

For those who you who feel that you have the desire to learn more of the secrets that lie within the tarot Mysterium Philippines offers regular courses on the introduction to tarot to dedicated seekers of the sacred mysteries.

Esoteric Insight: Mysterium Philippines Official Stance on the Move to Recognize Wicca as a Religion in the Philippines

Wicca is by far one of the most respected esoteric paths in practice today. It has been seen as a form of Spiritual discovery for thousands of people throughout the western world. In countries like the UK and the United States which possess strong political maturity we have even seen Wicca recognized as an official religion by these respective governments.

However we must not be over zealous in following the actions of western nations. Within the Philippines we must accept the reality. The majority of religions within the country are against even the most simplistic of esoteric and metaphysical practices. Our house of representatives as well as senate are mixed with either Judeo-Christians and or Muslims. Both religions that strongly oppose any form of practices within the occult. And with the hold the Church has on this country to move for said recognition will be the start of endless troubles not only for its supporters but for occultists of all paths

.

It is a sad reality but a reality none the less. Without our nation groups such as LADLAD  were even denied party list representation simply on the grounds of moral standing.   What more government recognition of a religion that substantiates the practices of witchcraft? We must always remember that this beautiful nation is still in its youth when it comes to political maturity. It is barely coming to terms with even mundane political realities and still far from willing to accept recognition of the homosexual movement within the party list system. What more that of Wiccans and Witches?.until then we can only pray for the day that the country is open to new beliefs without the need of fear and prejudices.

In conclusion after much debate, and discussion amongst the believers of the wiccan way in Mysterium Philippines we have  agree unanimously that It is NOT the time for such a movement and thus express a NO vote towards having Wicca recognized by the SEC. For the safety and security of esoteric practitioners nationwide.

Until the Utopian time comes. It would still be best for practitioners to remember the reed of..

“To know.. to Will, to Dare… and to.. KEEP SILENT”

Esoteric Insight: Un-Demonizing Occultism

November 4, 2009

By

American Centre for Arts, Paris

Occultism is a vast subject. If I am allowed to speak on this subject, I can go on talking for hours and hours. Since time is limited, I wish to give a short talk on occultism.

Occultism is an art. It is an inner art.

Occultism is a science. It is an outer science.

Occultism as an art awakens and inspires our inner life. Occultism as a science energises and stimulates our outer life. A great occultist is a dynamic athlete. He fights against doubt. He fights against impurity. He fights against imperfection.

If you want to be an occultist, a divine athlete, then your life boat has to ply between the shores of self observation and self correction in the river of emotion. That is to say, the human emotion has to curbed, perfected. But the divine emotion has to be practised, enlarged. This divine emotion makes us feel that we are in God, with God, and for God. Human emotion is otherwise. It binds us, and with the help of this emotion, we try to bind others. Here we play the game of possession-to possess and be possessed. But the divine emotion is something else. Here we enlarge our consciousness. We transform our earth bound life into the infinite expanse of light.

Esoteric Insight: Protecting yourself when entering the occult world

October 14, 2009

Although this article is not what you think, here are some important pointers to consider when you are ready to begin your search for the truth within the vast yet unpredictable world of the occult/estoteric.

 By the Invisible House

Excerpt from their Book: Paths to the Invisible house

If you think you are being used, abused, or taken advantage of, then you probably are. Self-preservation is a sacred law. Do not follow others to a needless death of the mind or body. Death will come in its own time and place. Here follows a list of the ten principal methods for recognizing dangerous groups, societies, orders, covens, or cults:

1. Exhibit signs of paranoia or persecution.
2. Domination of Leaders over Members.
3. Infallibility declared by Leaders.
4. Unreasonable demands for money or ‘worldly possessions’.
5. Any forms of critical censorship regarding Leaders or Members.
6. Methods used to obtain, keep and return Members.
7. Violence used to command obedience.
8. Any type of demand for sex.
9. Removing decisions and personal responsibility from Members.
10. Any signs that the principles taught are not followed.

September 17, 2009

Mysterium Philippines is proud to announce that we will be taking applicants for our Introduction to the Tarot Course. With the growing success of the first class of students, we have decided to open our doors to a second class.

The Mysterium Introduction to Tarot course aims to develop the students’ esoteric understanding of the Tarot through a non-conventional approach to its esoteric symbology.  Also, it aims to develop the Tarot’s practical uses in daily life. Topics within the course include: Tarot Meditation, Tarot Divination, Tarot Therapy and Tarot Magick. Basic Spreads will also be taught to the students throughout the course’s duration.

Details of the course are as follows:

By R.F Rubin

Founder, Mysterium Philippines

Mysterium Philippines: Who We Are

Last 2005, a group of likeminded individuals with interests in  the’ new age,  metaphysical, and  the arcane came up with a grand idea:  to be a catalyst for change in the way that the esoteric and new age was being taught throughout our country. Starting with the creation of its free online publication MYSTERIUM MAGAZINE, the idea snowballed into greater things within a  span of months.  Where books, and publications of this topic cost heavily on the pocket of average Filipinos, the magazine offered a free means  to access to the curious eyes of those interested in the esoteric all across the country. With the success of Mysterium Magazine, public events soon followed.

Today, Mysterium Philippines holds regular lessons, workshops, events and activities in their thrust to unite, empower and develop genuine esoteric potential all around the nation.  We strongly believe that developing a person’s inner gifts can help bring about positive changes in one’s life.  This is our way of helping our nation progress, one person at a time.
